We Remember the Future: Introducing PersianFutures

Recently I’m gaining a bigger appreciation for a powerful wave of future-thinking that’s emerging from historically overlooked voices. Movements like Afrofuturism have shown how art, technology, and ancestral memory can converge to shape bold visions of tomorrow.

PersianFutures is part of this growing chorus, rooted in Iran’s deep heritage, shaped by the imagination of its diaspora, and reaching toward a world where identity, innovation, and beauty are no longer in conflict.

If Afrofuturism taught us anything, it’s that you don’t need permission to imagine. You need memory. You need audacity. And you need rhythm. Just as Afrofuturism created space for Black identity in science fiction, speculative technology, and future narratives, reclaiming agency from a colonial past and projecting power into tomorrow, PersianFutures asks:

What happens when an ancient culture, disrupted by modern geopolitics and dislocated by diaspora, reclaims its right to envision?

PersianFutures is a framework that says: we don’t chase the future, we shape it. Not by imitating others, but by remixing our own DNA.

Using foresight tools, I’ve been exploring what different futures for Iran might look like and it’s been a lot of fun and perspective. Some are predictable. Some are cautionary. But one stands apart. The transformative scenario, The Renaissance Corridor.

That’s the one I’m obsessed with. Where Iran becomes a global hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and culture.

Will share more as we go

No matter where you are from, you can do the same for your homeland, it’s fun!

Here is to remembering the future.
